Welcome to our page, this blog ha been set up to help a local homeless man called Martin to get out of his current situation.
He is willing and able to work but with nowhere to live or wash this is near impossible.
My name is Gary, I first met Martin a few years ago begging in hackney. I've chatted to him over that time and found him to be an honest, genuine guy that just needs a break in life.
So I'm setting this blog up in the hope we can get a project he's been talking about up and off the ground!
The idea is to open a workshop/day centre/drop in for him and other homeless people where they can come and use tools and materials and learn some practical skills like building, painting and decorating, plumbing, carpentry etc.
Along side some psychological support the aim is to raise some confidence in them and help them get out of the homeless/drug addicted cycle and trained and confident in an employable skill.
At the moment this is just an idea. And I'm aware that in the current financial climate this may be difficult. The problem is that financial climate is the reason we've seen a 60% rise in street homelessness across london in the past year.
Something needs to be done! At the moment the government is doing a great job of spinning the news away from the sharp end of poverty.
Food banks, bedroom tax, benefit sanctions and changes in drug policy have culminated in a terrible situation

ReplyDeleteHello everyone! My name is Martin and I'm trying to start this project which would help homeless people "who wants" get back in work. Unfortunately my phone got stolen and that slows down work on homepage for this project. martin.gegeris@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteEven now I'm using someone's phone
ReplyDeleteThis is barry munday who's phone martin used to set up his blog. I know martin is a genuine person with good people skills who just through circumstance has ended up on the streets. I've only known martin a short period of time, but we get on great, and I can tell he is eager to get on and improve his life. So hopefully enough people will support his efforts in trying to better himself through helping other people
